Of hunting and farming - using Refinder as a research tool

I do a lot of research. Finding, evaluating and collecting interesting stuff is prerequisite to my work. In this post, I´m going to describe some of the workflows I adopted over time, while using Refinder as research tool.

Managing Activity Streams

The central piece of a collaborative social network is the activity stream. In it´s basic form, the activity stream is a chronological list of content, that displays the activities of users and applications. In the main consumer social networks, activity streams contain the status updates of the people you follow, including their posts of images, videos or links to interesting online sources.

Image previews

Image previews are a nice little enhancement for the Refinder user interface. As a first step towards general file previews, Refinder got enabled to display image previews.

The shape of Things in Refinder is not at all futuristic, much more prosaic, entirely non-fictious and totally non-speculative, however, Refinder's concept of Thing types can help you very well in your daily work.

About the "open outcomes" approach in social business software

Last week, at the INiTs Investors Day, one of the participants approached me. He told me, that he had liked the Refinder presentation, however, he had missed a slide featuring the particular use-case, that Refinder addresses.  In the flurry of the networking chit-chat we were not able to discuss the question in depth, therefore I pick up the question here and hand in my point-of-view.
